Stafford has enjoyed a great deal of success over the 40+ years as an award-winning producer and director in the entertainment industry working with domestic and foreign advertising agencies. Theater productions in the United State and Great Britain are also on Stafford’s list of accomplishments.

Stafford has had the opportunity to work with some of the big hitters in the entertainment industry. He created three award winning commercials for Switzerland’s largest insurance company, Winterthur Insurance, with director of photography Guillermo Navarro who earned an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for Pan’s Labyrinth. Making commercials at this level has allowed Stafford to work with some truly talented filmmakers such as Dante Spinotti (ranked the number one cinematographer in the world during the 1900’s & 2000’s). Dante and Guillermo are two of the top directors of photography in the film business that Stafford was privileged to work with.

Stafford grew up in Los Angeles, California under the tutelage of his mother who worked in the entertainment industry. She was one of the preeminent script supervisors and started her career at the top working for MGM, Warner Brothers, Disney and other studios. His mother had early exposure in her career to some of the greatest entertainers in the industry and was exposed to such greats such as Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and Gene Kelly. In later years, his love and understanding for the film business grew as he personally witnessed actors like Bob Hope and Shirley Jones work their magic. Watching Bob Hope and others was truly miraculous once the camera started rolling.

In 1998 Stafford had the opportunity to produce a mockumentary film after the style of This is Spinal Tap, The Rutles, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind entitled The Thin Pink Line. This film included some pretty great actors e.g., Mike Myers, Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell, David Schwimmer, Molly Shannon, Jason Priestly, Illeana Douglas and Tate Donovan to mention a few.

Stafford Smith Productions, Inc. was first created in 1980 as a commercial production company. The focus was on producing television and radio spots through the 1980’s and 90’s for some of the largest US corporations and advertising agencies.

After 24 years of operation, he changed the company name to “Bullit Films” as a homage to the great Steve McQueen and his very cool character Frank Bullitt – dropping one “T” for obvious reasons.
